Made for the bottle
Shaped to fit over the neck of a wine bottle and suit how bottles are shelved and handled in store.
Case study 06 of 07 · Retail
A security cap that fits over the neck of a wine bottle. It combines a strong magnetic lock with an IoT module, so it both deters theft and keeps stock data accurate.

A large retail store overseas had two problems with its premium wines: bottles were often stolen, and its stock figures were frequently wrong.
After in-depth discussions with the client and market research, the team found that no product on the market solved both problems at once.
The answer came from another industry. The team borrowed the principle of the security tags used on clothing and redesigned it for the shape of a wine bottle and the way wine is displayed and sold.
The device slips over the bottle neck and locks in place, and it carries electronics so each bottle can be counted.

A built-in strong magnet holds the device securely on the bottle, working on the same principle as clothing security tags.
A connected module enables stock and sales data to be collected, improving the accuracy of inventory figures.
Applying a proven clothing-tag principle to wine produced a solution the market did not yet have.
